How do they do it?

How do the birds stay warm in this weather?  I sometimes expect to see them freeze in mid-flight, come crashing down to earth and break into a thousand pieces.  Yet despite my bird ice bomb visions, they are still floating about, chirping their songs.

King of the cold.

King of the cold.

Don’t jump! Oh wait, you can fly. Jump!

“Which way did he go? Which way did he go?”

The look.

Wind blocker.

The launch.

  1. I meant…

I never saw a wild thing
    feel sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

  2. I put out a seed block and water for my Rosellas and other birds to snack on. I love watching them.

  3. Beautiful captures! There’s a cardinal couple who visit my yard from time to time and I wanted to keep them around because they’re not so common in NYC. I left a birdhouse out for them just in case they need shelter and I try to leave food for them. It might be tough for them since there are other birds to compete with and squirrels and cats to hide from, but I’m hoping they are warm and safe!
