Todd and I met John, the African lion, at the Cincinnati Zoo prior to the Festival of Lights. At first, he seemed like any big ole cat, curious and sneaky. But, he stopped, sat down, and stared into our souls. It felt as though he was trying to tell us something. For a moment we were connected with one of the great animals on our planet. As we were getting ready to leave, he make a little murmur noise as if to say “Don’t go, stay awhile.”
He looks like an old soul.
Agree. Thanks Ellen.
The markings between his eyes are very interesting, third eye chakra perhaps?
I thought that too… Not sure.
This is such a beautiful photo! His eyes are striking.
He does have nice eyes.
John is quite handsome! I totally believe in seeing their souls as well as them seeing ours.
Thanks Laura.

What a fantastic creature. Pity it’s in a zoo. I hope we feel a debt of gratitude to him and can work to preserve the natural world from which he sprung (or at least his ancestors did).
I have mixed feelings about the zoo too… Hopefully he is content. He has a nice place to roam and I am sure they feed him well.
He’s magnificent!!! 🙂
Indeed. 🙂
Your photo essays always make me smile 🙂
