Natural light

I’ve talked about the sky, the moon and trees.  Now it’s time to focus on the sun.  We all know how important the sun is to the Earth.  Without it, we cease to exist.  But isn’t the sun a wonderful photographer’s assistant.

As October continues, the sun continues to move farther away.  It will not visit us as much over the next few months.  So, we must cherish the light we have.  Below, I have a few photos that I took a couple of weeks ago.  It was early morning and the sun was just welcoming the day. Also, enjoy the Frost poem about October.

October

by Robert Frost

O hushed October morning mild,
Thy leaves have ripened to the fall;
Tomorrow’s wind, if it be wild,
Should waste them all.
The crows above the forest call;
Tomorrow they may form and go.
O hushed October morning mild,
Begin the hours of this day slow.
Make the day seem to us less brief.
Hearts not averse to being beguiled,
Beguile us in the way you know.
Release one leaf at break of day;
At noon release another leaf;
One from our trees, one far away.
Retard the sun with gentle mist;
Enchant the land with amethyst.
Slow, slow!
For the grapes’ sake, if they were all,
Whose leaves already are burnt with frost,
Whose clustered fruit must else be lost—
For the grapes’ sake along the wall.

  1. Love these photos! They make me homesick for Northwest NJ, where I would see scenery like this! i love FL and the beaches, but in the Fall season, I miss the vibrant colors of God’s countryside!

  2. I especially enjoy the second to the last one. It is amazing how even looking at these pictures of light (while I cuddle under the blanket on my couch and look out at the cold, gray day) makes me feel warmer!

  3. October sun..you dazzle my eyes
    I wink at you . amd blink many times
    then must use shades to get a right gaze
    you my friend have burned me tan
    I love you still..for you are the sun
    the only one
    that makes my day..comes out to play
    you remain with me, when everyone leaves
    you filter the light..through moon to me 🙂

  4. Love the first photo, really breath taking. You pictures should be in a calendar. Just like you explored darkness in your photos, the light depicted , especially the one over the dilapidated buildings, really brings to life the beauty of the sun….

  5. The light you captured in these photos is just gorgeous! So warm and golden. It reminds me of my favourite scene in the 2005 movie version of Pride & Prejudice, when Darcy is striding across that field toward Elizabeth at dawn … *swoon*

  6. I love them all…the colors and especially the colors in the shadows are amazing! I love the composition in the last one where the slanted hill looks like it’s tipping the dilapidated building!

  7. Beautiful photos. Back lighting is simply beautiful and you did a great job of using the sun in these pics. I like the the old falling down buildings too, but all the pictures are wonderful.
